"I have one quick question that I have never seen answered: Is there any overlap between the exams for the different [Microsoft] certifications? That is, can the exams used for any one certification also count towards another certification?"

The answer is yes, there is some overlap between Microsoft certification exams. The key to attaining the certifications along the shortest route is to pay close attention to your electives. Many electives for one certification are a core requirement for another.

Your first step is to decide which Microsoft Certification track you want to pursue. Then take one exam on that track. This will give you an MCP certification. From here, you are ready to embark on your journey to more Microsoft certifications.
