70-271 Study Tip - What is a clean installation?

From uCertfy.com, for About.com

A clean installation is one of the types of installations that are used to install an operating system on computers. A clean installation is generally performed on a computer that has no operating system installed or when it is not needed to preserve the existing installation on the computer. In a clean installation, nothing is carried over from the previous installation, and all the installed applications need to be reinstalled before a user can work on them. When a user performs a clean installation on a computer that has already a previous version of Windows installed, Windows setup leaves the existing data on the hard disk intact and installs Windows XP into its own folder. However, the users cannot use the existing applications until the applications are reinstalled.
