A network installation is one of the methods of installing Windows XP on large networks. In a network installation, the Windows XP installation files are stored on a network share. For the network installation, all the computers must be connected to the network share that contains the installation files. A user can perform either an upgrade or a clean installation from a network installation point. While performing an upgrade installation on a computer, a user simply needs to locate the shared folder where the installation files are stored and run the setup program (SETUP.EXE). If there is no operating system installed on a computer, then a user will have to use an MS-DOS boot disk to start the computer, and after that, he can connect to the network share and start the installation by running the WINNT.EXE command.
